How do you write ?
Le plus souvent, nous nous réunissons tous les trois pour jouer et nous voyons ce que cela donne. Nous prenons les idées qui naissent ainsi et nous les travaillons pour en faire des chansons. Les paroles viennent pratiquement toujours à la fin.   
For the most part, the three of us get together and just start playing to see what will happen.  We take ideas that come out of that and work on them and turn them into songs.  The lyrics almost always come last.

How do you resume 20 years of Yo la Tengo ?
Je n'y pense pas vraiment, en tout cas pas dans ces termes. D'un autre côté, à chaque fois que nous jouons en concert, nous répondons à cette question. Plus fort.
I don't really think about it, at least in terms of questions like this.  On the other hand, I think that every time we play a concert, we are answering that question.  More loudly.

Comment imagines tu les 20 prochaines années ?

Quand nous avons formé le groupe, nous n'avions pas de plan. Nous ne pensions pas rester ensemble six mois. Nous ne pensions pas non plus rester ensemble six ans. On dirait que cela fonctionne jusqu'à présent alors nous continuerons à ne pas regarder vers le futur.
When we formed the band, we had no specific plan.  We didn't think we'd be together for six months and we didn't think we'd be together for six years.  That's seemed to work so far, so we will continue not to look into the future.

Penses tu que vous travaillerez avec d'autres artistes comme Maureen Tucker, Jad Fair ou Daniel Johnston ?

Je suis sure que nous le ferons. Nous venons de donner un concert dans l'Utah et Daniel Johnston était à l'affiche. Il a chanté "speeding motorcycle" et  les Beatles "the one after 909" avec nous. Nous n'avons malheureusement pas vue Jad depuis quelques temps. Nous n'avons pas non plus travaillé avec Maureen Tucker. On aimerait beaucoup. Nous en avons parlé à plusieurs reprises mais nos agendas ne correspondaient pas.
En décembre nous avons joué au Maxwell's les huit nuits de Hanukkah (ndt : la fête des lumières). C'est la troisième fois en 4 ans que nous le faisons.  Nous avons jouer quelques titres seulement en trio et nous avons été rejoints sur scène par une longue liste de supers artistes comme les 4 membres de Eleventh Dream Day, les 4 membres de The Coctails, la plupart de Calexico, Save Schramme, Wreckless Eric, Conor Oberst, les 3 membres de The Shams (les Shams de New York, pas le groupe actuel de Cincinnati), Glenn Mercer et Dave Weckerman des Feelies, Steve Wynn, Laura Cantrell et d'autres encore.
I'm sure we will.  We just played a concert in Utah and Daniel Johnston was on the bill.  He sang "Speeding Motorcycle" and the Beatles' "The One After 909" with us.  We haven't seen Jad in a while, unfortunately.  And although we have never worked with Maureen Tucker, we would love to.  We have spoken about doing something a few times, but our schedules have never worked out.
In December we played at Maxwell's all eight nights of Hanukkah (the third time in the last four years we have done this).  We played very few songs as a trio, and were joined by a long list of great people, including all four members of Eleventh Dream Day, all four members of the Coctails, most of Calexico, Dave Schramm, Wreckless Eric, Conor Oberst, all three members of the Shams (the New York Shams, not the current band from Cincinnati), Glenn Mercer and Dave Weckerman from the Feelies, Steve Wynn, and Laura Cantrell, and more.

L'idée du cd vient de Matador's. Bien qu'ils aient suggéré l'idéé et proposé une première track list, Georgia s'est vraiment impliqué dans le projet. La sélection finale et l'ordre des morceaux doivent beaucoup au travail de Georgia. Il se présente dans deux (paquets) différents : un double cd avec deux heures de titres extraits pour la plupart de nos albums (les seuls morceaux hors albums sont " shaker ", " nuclear war " et " By the time it gets dark ". Il y a aussi une version triple cd qui inclut un cd supplémentaire de raretés et de chansons inédites. Nous espérons que le fan qui achètera le pack de trois cd aimera aussi la sélection de nos anciennes chansons, même s'il possède beaucoup de ces titres sur les disques originaux.
The idea for the cd was Matador's, although once they suggested it, and an initial track listing, Georgia got very involved.  The final selections and sequence are the result of a lot of Georgia's work.  It comes in two different packages: there is a 2-cd set with over two hours of tracks mostly from our albums (the only non-album cuts are "Shaker," "Nuclear War" and "By the Time It Gets Dark").  There is also a 3-cd version, which includes an extra cd of rarities and unreleased songs.   It is our hope that the fan who buys the package for the third cd will also enjoy the compilation of the old songs, even though he or she may own a lot of them on the original records.
